Anomic Resiliency: Challenging religion in a Changing Society
Albert Banico, MSS

(paper presented at the 2008 Philippine Sociological Society National Conference, October 2008, PSSC, Quezon City)

ABSTRACT

The study provides insights on how religion helps Filipinos to be resilient and the form that this takes. And question on relevance between traditional Filipino values, religious norm and the coping process as individuals confronted with various socio-economic challenges.

The study deals with how in particular Filipino youth seek convenience in life as they confront the various challenges and complexities of their daily life e.g. poverty, consumerism, modernization and technology.

The study observed that deviance is becoming a way of life in dealing with everyday social challenges among many Filipinos regardless of social classes, geographic location and age distribution as they ignore institutions such as religion and traditional values in order to survive. It provides a twist on how to look into the Filipino resiliency and an emerging pattern of coping mechanism in the life of society.

The former students of Milagros Macarilay Catabona have spoken the truth behind her teaching styles which really a sign of a PSYCHOTIC PERSON. Not only that... she demands for something when seating as a panelist in a thesis and dissertation...my Gosh...the nerve. I can name names . May God bless you .

milagros catabona was my professor in letran in the late 80's. there's only one word to describe her...she was not just insane....she was a b**** !....is she still alive and making student life miserable? a student will only remember two teachers in his college life, the best one and the worst, that bipolar b**** is the latter one.
she has a lot of apologizing to do to her former students at letran

I agree with the opinion of Win. Ronnil you have to repect their opinion about Milagros Catabona who happened to be your mother. You dont have any ideas of what she have done to her former students in graduate studies esp. in MLQU. I feel relieve when their opinion comes out her in Asian Social Institute. Because am also a victim of unfair and unjust style of her teaching. Kaya lang...inunawa ko na lang siya.
God bless

@Miki Santiago

Dr. Milagros M. Catabona was never a "kick-out" of Colegio De San Juan De Letran. She worked there from 1966-1996, was a college prof. from 1974-1996, and she also took up biology there when it was still offered back then. She retired from Letran at 1996 and was paid almost P200K as retirement pay for 30 yrs. of service to the institution. Nobody in their right mind would pay that much money for a kick out, right???!!! Unless you would also claim that the people in Letran are all insane.

May i ask you name the people you're referring to as to give proof to your claim that Dr. catabona is indeed insane.

@Maria Kotler
Unless you could name those "Letran professors" you bumped into and give proof to what you claim they said, kindly keep your thoughts to yourself.

@Nagel Esperansa
May i ask, who is this "Mila" you're referring to that you agree with, as i have browsed through all the 30 comments made here and only Miki Santiago, and Maria Kotler had something to say about Dr. Catabona, and their comments were made long after yours.

@ the 3 of you
Dr. Catabona has 30 plus yrs. of experience in education and psychology. She,at times, maybe over zealous in her manner of teaching but to claim that she is "insane" and a bad prof. surely needs some backing.

So unless you can put some substance to all the s*** you claim she is, then that's just what it is, a big pile of s***!

I tried googling all your names, and nothing came up but the commments you 3 made here.

Try googling for her name a few hits came back, and all contained "Dr." at the beginning of her name and Ph.D. at the end. And i wonder why? oh, yes, now i remember, she is a doctor of psychology. And you guys are????..... ('am still asking)...

I agree with the comment of others that the MLQU Graduate Studies has a very BAD as in bad faculty professor in the Person of Dr. Milagros Catabona, a kick out of Letran and had been a subject of all psychology graduates of MLQU that in deed they suffer the insanity of Dr. Catabona. Administrator of this University should look into the truthness and honest opinion of the former srudents of this University. She is an every inch b**** in the academy. You can ask the past graduates. You can check with the former deans of Graduate Studies to prove the allegations and i have testimony to prove it...Sana po maging patas tayo sa lahat ng mag-aaral ng universidad ng Manuel Luis Quezon.
