An educational institution with a social transformative praxis, Asian Social Institute concerns itself with social development having the poor as the frame of reference in its educational endeavors. Since its establishment in 1962, ASI has been forming leaders in social sciences in various institutional spheres for the uplift of the poor.
The Institute's integral components blend harmoniously, integrating theory and practice, in an effort to develop leaders who are equipped with interdisciplinary social science skills nurtured in the philosophy of commitment to total human development.
DIOCESAN ACCOMPANIMENT
A formal agreement is in place between ASI and the Diocese of Daet for accompaniment assistance, which include the conduct of a Participatory Research and Finalization of the Pastoral Plan of the Diocese of Daet. A staff of ASI was assigned to lead and helped in the establishment of the Socio-Pastoral Action Center Foundation Inc., the social development arm of the diocese. Through ASI’s assistance, the Diocese of Daet was able to access funds for the construction of their training center, coastal resource management program, basic ecclesial community organizing and disaster preparedness programs.
ASI accompanies the Prelature of Libmanan also, covering the first district of Camarines Sur. ASI’s assistance includes training, planning, accessing of funds and technical consultancy. It has also commenced its assistance to the Diocese of Masbate covering the entire Province of Masbate.
YOUTH PROGRAM
ASI is engaged in the accompaniment of a passionate youth group called the KKK (Kilusan ng Kabataan para sa Kinabukasan or Movement of Youth for the Future) whose vision is for youth of various sectors to share common responsibility in building a world that lives the principle, globalization without marginalization, globalization without exclusion. This youth group, which is composed of students coming from various university and some youth professionals, is expected to make grassroots youth beneficiaries and real partners in creating wholesome families, communities, nations and societies. ASI believes that the approach to integrate the schooled youth with the majority of the grassroots youth will have a long-range influence.
ENTERPRISE CENTER
The Enterprise Center is a value-adding partner accompanying families of inadequate economic means towards productive and gainful engagement in livelihood ventures and growth-oriented enterprise. It also maintains linkages with ngo’s like SAFRUDI, Alay-Kapwa and Batis Aware. |
